Should we have small pencil cases?

Written on October 21, 2010 – 10:03 am | by Lachy

In our new classrooms, it has become mandatory that we have small pencilcases and if they are too big we are not allowed to have them on our table. There are both pros and cons to having smaller pencilcases. Should we be forced to get smaller pencilcases for our tables.

Smaller pencilcases are good because they take up less space and we really don’t need that much stuff in them. They conserve space which is important when on round tables as they have limited space. Also they are easy to move from location to location and if you go to a lesson like german where the tables are small you will have more space.

In smaller pencil cases there is not enough space for all of your stationary. This means whenever you need something other than a pencil you will need to get up and go to your tray you will be wasting lesson times. This isn’t good. Half the day would be wasted ferrying back and forth between table and tray.

After reading this do you think we need to buy smaller pencilcases?

Torrens Buildings

Three weeks ago the former Morphett students moved into the brand new Torrens buildings. There are four classrooms, labeled L.A.16, 17, 18 & 19. There is also an Aula which is a shared space in the middle of the building. There is also a media room and the “Torrens HQ”.

There is slightly more space in the new classrooms and we are never squished so we have lots of room.

The round tables are interesting and I’m sure it will be interesting seeing how we work on them differently, if we do at all. They encourage collobaration but makes chatting easier too.

The glass walls are good because it gives the space more of an open look and probably makes the rooms look bigger. It is also good for the environment as the light aren’t used as much. It also makes it easier for teachers to supervise students.

The design of the lockers looks good. Because there is limited space, all of our bags need to stand up. Also they are outside and they are not 100% waterproof. The classes and the veranda shield most of the elements, but some water still manages to slightly wet our bags.

The Aula is the shared learning space. It has some round tables and chairs. I think it is a good feature because, coupled with the media room, it provides a more flexible learning environment as we can move out there to do some work.

Seating has created some dialemmas. We have decided to have four people per table and I think this is a good desicion. I like the current idea of having the choice of seating at the beginning of the day because it encourages you to work with different people. The only major problem is in the morning as soon as the bell goes everyone is running to the class. Also if you are late you will not get any choice who you sit next to.

There really isn’t that much that I would change because currently is seems to be an interesting, interactive learning environment.

As you may have noticed, to your right there is a lightbulb widget that turns on and off when you click it.

This was created by using DHTML. This stands for Dynamic Hyper Text Markup Language.

This is a combination of ;

  • Javascript
  • HTML
  • CSS

If you wish to learn some of these I recommend

Below you can find the coding for the light bulb.

You need to copy the below code into an empty text widget if youare using it in edublogs. Anywhere else you just paste it anywhere that accepts HTML text.

<script type=”text/javascript”>
function changelight()
if (cc==0)
<img src=”” id=”light” onclick=”changelight()” />
<p>Click to turn on/off the light</p>

Our Schools 50th Birthday

Our Schools 50th Birthday

Friday the 19th March was sports day. We held it at Henly Oval like we did last year. Because it is our schools 50th anniversary we replaced High Jump and something else with the three legged race and Tunnel Ball. I think these were interesting changes and we should have something like this every year. I think it is fun not just always doing the sports they do in athletics because it adds some variety.

I am in Orange Team!!!

This year RED won again…

GREEN came second…

and finally YELLOW  and ORANGE tied in third…

That is it for sports day 2010!

She talked about the lower and upper house and went through the election process.

We had a mini election for a food and Pizza won. We used official Ballot Papers

It was a lot of fun.
